Marvelous Monday :-)

Well for me the weekend has been and gone, but I return to my newly fashioned blog feeling like I have some direction (hence the Marvelous :)...

Something New:

So So La La - Thieves of Aon

Well, for a start I'm just going to say that I have the prestigious honour of being the 1st person to ever blog about these guys (yay!!)...but seriously...this track really speaks to me, so well composed, so free flowing, I think it's fantastic. These guys (Stephen Docker and Gerard Sidhu), clearly have a goal in mind...hit the pop market, but this song does it superbly. It sounds strikingly similar to Gypsy and the Cat (who are top friends...cool!) but with the more 80s keyboards/synth, mixing with some guitars on the first chorus. Great listen and my hot tip is that these guys will be signed very shortly. Mark the day you read this blog in your calender as the day MCMX told you that Thieves of Aon and Gypsy and the Cat will become the hottest thing in music to come out of Australia in a very long time. I can't get this tune out of my head...it's so simple yet so.............so, so....la la.

Something Old:

Only When I Sleep - The Corrs

After talking to my girlfriend on the phone, I walked past my Dads CD collection, and noticed the Beatles Anthology. More to the point, just under it was 'The Best of The Corrs'....and I was thinking "holy shit! they used to be massive back in the 90s! definitely having a listen tomorrow". And here we are! Well, I think everyone should have a listen to this, to remember what was hopefully a simpler time in their lives, but also one where Ireland was known not only for Guinness, but alo for being "home of The Corrs" (Sorry Ireland!)....but I love the electric guitar, vocals and the lyrics too...such a good simple song.

Something Blue:

You Were Meant For Me - Jewel

Yes, you might be thinking "shit all this guy writes about is old 90s songs and girl bands"....Not true! Well, in this blog, yes...but there is a purpose. This song is very much out of my repertoire (as is The Corrs) of say Beatles, Bloc Party, and Muse....but I heard it whilst I was on hold talking to my mobile provider...and I did another "I remember this song!" (sorry!). But I love listening to it because everytime I do I get a great feeling from it...this is one of very few songs Jewel really nailed. I've put it in the "blue" category, as Jewel kinda sold out, and it's quite blue compared to her latest stuff (I think...well compared to Intuition at least)...but I love the simpleness of the guitar and lyrical content of making breakfast. Any song that has the word dreams in it (re Fleetwood), is sure to be a winner!

Well I think I've done enough for today. Number 2 done and dusted.

Peace x

First cab off the rank

So here were are on a fabulous Friday...

I don't know how to give an intro to a blog (I don't even know if it's etiquette??), but after trawling through hypem and seeing what's on there, I figure I can contribute.

Every time I blog, I'll look at putting up something new, something old and something blue, in terms of music (Blogger wouldn't let me have borrowed...and I kind of figure it's all borrowed anyway)....so how about we start.

Something new:

One Life Stand - Hot Chip

This song has really made an impression with me, and I think it's a lot catchier off first listen than anything off Made in the Dark. It's quite simple, but the effects that are associated with Hot Chip help to make this song song fantastic.

Something old:

Earth Song - Michael Jackson

How could I not have my first blog without MJ (that's what she said?)...such an underrated song, it is great on This Is It, and the film clip is so badass 90s...I love it. It's got such a great build, and when the drums kick in, it's as good as any rock song imo. Those drums do it for me big time.

Something blue:

Feeling Good - Muse

Muse are the shit right now, and this is a great rendition of an old classic, that was released on Origin of Symmetry. Do yourself a favour and listen, and while your at it, if you want a good laugh check out the video where they performed it on Spanish radio...needless to say I want to have Matt Belamy's children

Peace x
